School-based Wellness Programming

Nutrition Center staff can help school districts create and sustain environments that promote school wellness with the following activities.

  • Assess current wellness programs and areas to address to provide the necessary information for priority-setting, action-planning and decision-making.
  • Develop and implement innovative wellness programming tailored for individual school districts and/or schools. These programs can address the areas of the school food environment, nutrition education, physical activity, staff wellness, parent engagement, or a combination of any of those areas.
  • Provide in-services for school staff to teach them an evidence-based alternative way to talk to children about healthy eating that promotes positive behavior change.
  • Evaluate programming comparing original baseline data, plan and implementation priorities with objective measures and subjective measures of progress.
